Answer: 8. a. The poem ‘Two Mothers Remembered’ reminds us of the contribution of our mothers in our lives. It inspires us to love our mothers always. The poem reflects a daughter’s love and sense of responsibility towards her mother.
b. The speaker had two mothers, who were in fact the same person. The first mother was the speaker’s mother in her young age, and the second mother was the speaker’s mother in her old age.
c. Apart from biological attachment, the speaker had emotional attachment to her mother in the poem, ‘Two Mothers Remembered’. They used to have some wonderful time together. Like every other mother and daughter, they used to laugh and have fun together.
d. When the speaker grew up, the speaker’s mother got totally changed. The older her mother grew, the younger she became. Her mind became clouded. The speaker realized that her mother would soon pass away.
e. I think the speaker’s mother turned into a stranger as she got totally changed. Once, her mother was her strength. Now, she became her mother’s strength. Her mother started acting like a child. She was confused, weak, and dependent.
f. In the poem ‘Two Mothers Remembered’, the speaker meant that her mother’s becoming dependent on her had completed a natural circle. When the speaker was born, her mother nurtured her and helped her in every way. With time, her mother grew older and became weak and dependent. Now, the speaker became her mother’s strength.
g. Yes, I agree that the poem reflects a daughter’s love and sense of responsibility to her mother. It is because the speaker now takes care of her mother and does everything she can to make her mother happy. Thinking of the happy time they passed together, she becomes sad that her mother would soon leave her.
h. According to the poem ‘Two Mothers Remembered’, a loving and caring bond exists between a mother and her daughter.
