STORY WRITING
Two Friends and a Bear
One evening two friends were passing through a jungle. They were very intimate with each other. There lived wild beasts in the jungle.
After walking for some time, they saw a bear coming towards them. Both of them got afraid. One of them knew how to climb up a tree. He climbed up a nearby tree and left his friend alone.
The other was fatty and did not know how to climb up a tree. He gave up the hope of his life. He knew that a bear does not touch a dead body. So he fell flat on the ground like a dead person. He stopped breathing also.
The bear came near him. It smelt him all over the body. The bear thought him to be a dead man. So it did not touch him. It went away slowly and gently.
The friend who was on the tree saw everything. He got down from the tree. He went to his friend and asked him eagerly, ‘Oh! Dear, what did the bear whisper to your ear?’
In reply the friend said, ‘It advised me not to trust a false friend.’ It said, ‘Don't mix with the friend who leaves you in time of danger. He's not a friend indeed.’
So we should bear in mind that ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed.’
Wisdom of King Soloman
King Solomon was renowned as a powerful king all over the world. Everyone became charmed at his wit and excellent wisdom. The queen of Sheba heard that the King could answer any difficult question instantly. She hit upon a plan to test the king and made two similar garlands- one was made of real flowers and another was artificial.
She called on King Solomon and asked, ‘Oh the wise king. I have taken these two garlands for you. Both are similar to look at but only one is real. Can you choose the real one?"
The garlands were on the table which was near the window. The king looked at them at a glance and opened the window at once. There were some bees in his garden beside the window. He found a few of bees enter the room through the window and sit on one of the garlands of the queen of Sheba. He instantly could understand which one the real garland was.
He then, easily chose the real garland and left the artificial one. ‘Long live our wise king’ cried out Queen. ‘You are really the wisest king of the world,’ she added.
Golden Touch
Once upon a time there was a king called Midas. He was extremely fond of gold. Already he was the owner of a lot of gold but he wanted more gold. He thought that if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest man in the world. One day a wise god granted his wish promptly.
That afternoon Midas was sitting near an apple tree in the palace orchard. A ripe apple fell from the tree in his front. He picked it up. It became gold. Midas realised he had been gifted with the golden touch. He was overwhelmed with joy. He entered the palace with an ecstasy of joy. His little daughter Marigold came running to her father. Midas took her lip in his arms with an intensity of glee. But alas! There was a statue of gold in his lap. The princess became all gold. The king was at his wit’s end. A terrible shock rent his heart. The princess was no more that Marigold. Now he needed Marigold and not gold. He was shedding bitter tears. Suddenly his face beamed up. He remembered the wish god. He prayed to him to take away the golden touch. The wish god heard the prayer and lifted from him the golden touch. Midas felt profoundly grateful. He took the princess again into his lap. She became Marigold. Midas’s joys now knew no bounds. He grew wiser and gave up his greed.
