Answer: 2. (a) I think the sign ‘Dogs and Indians not allowed’ is a notorious one. It is notorious in the sense that Indian people have been compared and associated with dogs. Dogs and the Indian people seemed to be alike to the British. In other words, the British looked on and treated the Indians like dogs.
(b) Pritilata showed that women also can work like men. She showed that there is no discrimination between men and women. She also showed that man and woman can do every work together to become successful. This is why she participated in different activities against the British rule and became successful.
(c) Since Pritilata wanted to free her motherland from British colonial rule, she decided to fight against the British rule. This is because she gradually involved herself in Surja Sen’s armed resistance movement.
(d) Yes, I think that both Pritilata and Surja Sen were patriots. Because both of them sacrificed their lives only for the cause of their motherland and they did nothing for their own interest.
(e) Pritilata’s activities in her life proved that she fought not only against the British rule but also gender discrimination. She, being an activist in the Anti-British movement sacrificed her life in an attempt to destroy a European Club well-known for its notorious sign ‘Dogs and Indians not allowed’. She led a team of 10-12 men to attack the club. She ardently desired a society free from gender discrimination. Her desires and anti-British activities like a man amply proved this.
