A car mechanic Paul Jobs and his wife Clara Jobs adopted Steve Jobs who was abandoned at birth. Paul and Clara loved Steve very much. They made him feel that he was ‘chosen’ and very ‘special’.
Steve's desire for complete control of whatever he makes derives directly from his personality and from the fact that he was abandoned at birth.
Jobs was taught to read and write by his mother before he went to elementary school. So when he went to school, he found out that he knew everything that the teachers were teaching. He got bored and played pranks to keep himself busy. This continued for the first few years. It was clear from his behaviour that he could not accept other people’s authority.
In grade four, his teacher Imogene Hill watched him very closely for some time and soon found out how to handle him and get things done by him. In order to get things done she used to give him money and food. After doing this for a couple of months Jobs enjoyed learning so much that he did not need any return. Also he liked his teacher very much and wanted to please her. In Ms. Hill’s class, Jobs felt he was special. At the end of the fourth grade, Jobs did very well. Everybody including his parents and teachers were certain that he was exceptionally intelligent. The school proposed that Jobs should skip two classes and go into seventh grade. Only then would Jobs find the study challenging and would be motivated to study. But his parents had him skip only one grade.

Unseen Passage
Read the following text (unseen)carefully and answer the question no. 2.
The first and foremost quality of a good citizen is patriotism. He should have a genuine love for his country and should have a sense of involvement in its day-to-day affairs, economic policies and international relationships. All these cannot be achieved overnight. It is the product of a good training and a good heritage and various other factors that contribute towards patriotic feeling. The first among these is the right kind of upbringing. If a child hears only stories of betrayal and listens to a discussion of the various methods of making easy money, he is unlikely to imbibe any good qualities. The hand that rocks the cradle shapes the world. Honesty, integrity and self-respect are the qualities that can only be nurtured at home. These form the foundation of good citizenship. A home and a family are a miniature group. If a person gets his values and priorities correct while in it, he will certainly be a good citizen. A good citizen puts his country before himself. He should not enter into any contract, which may prove harmful to the interest of his country. These are the qualities which add up to strength and character. A farmer, a teacher and a soldier each one is important in his own role. He who loves his country puts his heart in him. For this he stays away from anti-social activities like smuggling and corruption.
2. Write a summary of the above passage in your own words.
