Ans: Data transmission methods refer to the techniques used to send data between devices.
Basically there are two types of data transmission.
1. Serial Data Transmission
2. Parallel Data Transmission
Question: What is serial data transmission? Describe data transmissions Advantages and Disadvantages.
Ans: In the data transmission where data is sent one bit at a time over a single communication channel is called serial data transmission.
Advantages: i. Requires fewer physical communication lines.
ii. Simpler implementation and less complex hardware.
iii. Suitable for long-distance communication.
Disadvantages: i. Slower compared to parallel transmission for large amounts of data.
Question: What is parallel data transmission? Describe parallel data transmissions Advantages and Disadvantages.
Ans: In the data transmission where multiple bits are sent simultaneously over separate communication channels is called parallel data transmission.
Advantages: i. Faster data transfer, especially for larger amounts of data.
ii. Well suited for short distance communication.
Disadvantages: i. Requires more physical communication lines.
ii. Complex hardware design and synchronization are necessary.
iii. Susceptible to timing issues leading to data skew.
The choice between serial and parallel transmission depends on factors like data rate, distance and system complexity. Serial transmission is often favored for long distance communication and simplicity, while parallel transmission is used for high speed communication over short distances.
